Sojourners is a left-of-center advocacy organization using Christian messaging to support liberal public policies. It publishes a monthly journal, titled Sojourners.

Criticism

Sojourners has been criticized for taking significant funding from irreligious mega-donors and foundations to push left-wing ideas in the name of Christianity, a phenomenon which critics have called “rented evangelicals.” 1 In the 2004 election cycle, Sojourners received a $200,000 grant from George Soros’s Open Society Foundations. In 2006, the group received another $25,000 from Soros and in 2007 received an additional $100,000 from the foundation. 2 It was later reported in 2010 that Sojourners received $2,159,346 from the Ford Foundation, Tides Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Barbra Streisand Foundation, and Wallace Global Fund between 2003 and 2009. 3
