What is an Evangelical?

The term “evangelical” comes from the Greek word euangelion, meaning “the good news” or the “gospel.” The evangelical faith focuses on the “good news” of Jesus’s gift of salvation to believers who follow him and obey God’s Word of life. Naturally we want to share with others the life-giving joy that the Lord has so freely offered us.

Evangelicals believe that the Bible is accurate and inerrant, and Jesus Christ is Savior, Lord and King of the world. We take church, community and culture seriously. We are committed to kindness, hospitality, service, truth  and cultural leadership.

God’s Word is clear and so we believe that, against all apparent odds, all nations will be discipled and worship the Lord. And so we work towards that beautiful end of human flourishing and God’s glory.

Evangelicals can be found in many denominations, but the term is mostly used by believers who affiliate with Protestant or non-denominational churches and communities.

To receive and begin to follow Jesus, we suggest that you visit a Bible teaching church, and pray this prayer: “Lord, I need you. I’m so sorry for my sin, for hurting You, myself and others. Through the sacrificial death of Jesus on my behalf, please forgive me for my sins, and heal me of my pain. Revive me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I could begin anew. Comfort me. Walk with me. Teach me. Be my true Father. Make me a channel of your peace and blessing. Thank you for loving me. Help me to forgive others as I’ve been forgiven. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”

Amen, indeed! Open your Bible or read online at BibleGateway.com

John 1:12 (NIV)

“… to all who did receive, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

John 3:16-21 (NIV)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
